Skills Framework for the Information Age

SFIA, the Skills Framework fortheInformation Age,is a structured model developed by the SFIA Foundation,an independent global not-for- profit organization,to standardize the definition of skills and competencies required in the digital and IT workforce. It provides a common language for describing professional roles, enabling organizations to assess, develop, and manage talent effectively.

Structured Levels of Responsabilities

SFIA is built around seven clearly defined levels of responsibility, beginning with Level 1—where individuals carry out routine tasks under close supervision—and progressing to Level 7, which focuses on strategic leadership, setting organisational direction, and inspiring teams. Each level represents a step up in autonomy, influence, complexity, business skills, and professional knowledge. These five generic attributes form the backbone of the framework and enable organisations to assess capability, support career development, and understand the contribution of roles across different professional disciplines.

Skills and Competencies

The framework defines professional skills across six broad categories: Strategy&Architecture, Change&Transformation, Development & Implementation, Delivery & Operations, People & Skills, and Relationships Engagement. Each skill includes a high-level description, guidance notes, and level-specific descriptions detailing how the skill is applied in practice. This allows both individuals and organizations to benchmark capabilities, identify skillgaps, and plan development.

SFIA is delivered inside our own skills portal

"ITSA" (I T Skills Assessment)

Powered by VSAP, ITSA is our online skills appraisal portal specifically for SFIA which will enable your organisation to analyse and assess the IT skills of its IT employees, using the internationally renowned Skills Framework ‘SFIA’ as its benchmark.
ITSA helps you to identity the skills the IT employees in your organisation need to deliver its products and services to your clients effectively, efficiently and productively.
Through SFIA role alignment assessment or self-assessment , it can reveal how those employees are currently delivering their role and provide a comparison between their perspective of their role and the needs of your business.  Consequently, this will enable the business to make adjustments where necessary through, for example, training, career progression, increased competency, accurate assignment of duties and better targeted recruitment.
